Bloodstone
Alternative Birthstone for March
Bloodstone is a type of dark green chalcedony colored by traces of iron silicates with red jasper spots. Also known as heliotrope, Greek for “sun-turner,” it was believed to alter the reflected rays of the sun, giving them a red color. Bloodstone is deposited from low-temperature, silica-rich waters peculating through cracks and fissures in other rocks. Fine specimens are found in India, Brazil, Australia, and the USA. Metaphysically, it is used for courage, health of blood, and the circulatory system.
