Emerald

emeraldThe bright green variety of beryl, emerald has been prized as a gem at least since the era of the Egyptians, who valued it as a symbol of fertility and life, and who mined emerald in Upper Egypt as early as 1300 BCE. After the Spanish arrived in South America, a great many emeralds were removed from deposits in Columbia. Other localities include Russia, Austria, Norway, Brazil, South Africa, Pakistan, Zambia, and North Carolina.

Metaphysically, emerald works strongly with the heart (4th) chakra to instill love and compassion, as well as to open one to true abundance and prosperity.
