Tourmaline has one of the broadest color palettes of any mineral group. The name derives from the Sinhalese turmali, meaning many colored crystals or gems. Each color has its own mineral name, including dravite (brown), rubellite (red, pink), indicolite (blue) and schorl (black). Fine examples of gem tourmaline come from Brazil, Afghanistan, Maine, and California. Metaphysically, each of the various colors of tourmaline has a specific attribute.
